about
Writing this song was a journey spanning several years. It started instrumentally and even from the beginning represented "light". What I went through the following years while completing and finally writing the lyrics doesn't even explain what the song means. When the song was finished, mixed and mastered, the lyrics and what it represented still needed to be played out in my own life. I'm finally at a point where it's meaning truly makes sense to me.
The song uses light as a metaphor to describe the dark parts of life. It's about taking time to harness our own inner light to become better people and to transcend the pain or fear that shrouds our inner peace.
Sometimes we really need to stop putting up our defenses as well as take care of our selves, if we ever want to truly be happy. It's scary to let go of things or people in our lives and it can be hard to outlive our inner demons, but we are all capable and this is a song of hope for dealing with that. Enjoy <3

lyrics
Light
Crystallizing
Still refracts in
This dark well of fear
Time
Only knows it’s depth
How we will resurface
and reflect
We’ve been casting circles
To keep us from
Drowning in this water
Oh the shapes we throw
Can’t keep us afloat
We must learn to swim alone
(repeated)
From hazy grey
To glowing green
We are the light we seek
Through the shade
Of pain to peace
We’ve been casting circles
To keep us from
Drowning in this water
Oh the shapes we throw
Can’t keep us afloat
We must learn to swim alone
We’ve been casting circles
To keep us from
Drowning in this water
Oh the shapes we throw
Can’t keep us afloat
We must learn to swim

I have a huge soft spot in my heart for emo and math rock, and Gulfter is the perfect blend. This is a considerably more melodic and mathy excursion from Dog Bless, but it still satisfies. There is a summeriness and brightness to this record that is absolutely addicting. JDMP
